Nursing mothers can use the private “Lactation Rooms” located throughout Women's and Children's. If you need advice on or assistance with breastfeeding, a lactation consultant (specialist who is educated in the art of breastfeeding) is available to help you. If you need the services of a bank, a computerized bankcard machine operated by Alliance One Credit Unions is located on the main floor of the Medical Center near the main lobby.Mail
Our volunteers will deliver mail addressed to your child directly to his or her room. Please notify the mailroom, at 419-251-1141, if it is likely that mail will be addressed to your child with a nickname. Mail received after you have been discharged will be forwarded to your home. Outgoing mail may be deposited in U.S. mailboxes on the main floor.Public Transportation
The TARTA bus line stops on Cherry Street directly in front of St. Vincent/MCH. Bus schedules are available at the lobby information desk.
Courtesy Cab phones, which are directly connected to local cab companies, are located at the lobby information desk.Showers and Lockers
Showers and lockers are available for parent use while their children are in the hospital. These amenities are located off the main hallway on the sixth floor. A washer and dryer are also conveniently located in the unit.Family Resource Center
If you or your family members need more information on specific medical conditions, procedures, or community resources, you may visit the Family Resource Center located on the hospital’s sixth floor. Books, videos and other materials on a variety of topics including healthcare, specific illnesses and conditions are available on loan or provided free at the Center. There are also computer terminals available with Internet access. You may also access your e-mail account or correspond with family or friends about your child’s condition.
If you don’t want to leave your child’s bedside and need information, call extension 1-8072 and we will gather information for you and bring it to you. If you leave a recorded message, please be sure to leave your child’s name and room number.
The Family Resource Center Coordinator may visit you at your child’s bedside to see how you are doing and whether the Family Resource Center may assist you in some way. You may also receive a visit from a Parent Advocate. This is a parent whose child has been a patient at Mercy Children’s Hospital. Parent Advocates are available just to listen and discuss your concerns from a parent perspective.A Place to Share...
