What is the doctor looking for?
Another name for blood sugar is glucose. Measurements of glucose are important to the diagnosis and management of diseases affecting carboydrate metabolism. Diabetes mellitus is a disease in which blood glucose levels are elevated because of deficient insulin secretion and/or abnormal insulin action.

What is the test?
The test is a simple blood draw. A nurse or clinician will insert a needle into your arm and withdraw a sample of blood to be analized in the lab.

Where is the test done?
The blood draw is done in either a hospital, outpatient lab or in your physiican's office.

May I eat or drink?
The test should be performed after an 8 hour fast.

When will the results be ready?
Results are available the same day as your blood is taken
