Conditions - Atrial Fibrillation (AF)
Atrial Fibrillation (AF)
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a form of
arrhythmia. The electrical signals that control your heart’s function become rapid and disorganized. The result is that your heart’s atria and ventricles do not work together properly and blood flows erratically. AF is typically symptom-free but you may sense chest pain or suffer from heart failure. AF can be a persistent, progressive condition or occur only sporadically.
Mercy Heart and Vascular Center cardiologists have extensive experience diagnosing and treating patients with atrial fibrillation. Your cardiologist will review your symptoms, family history, and do a physical examination. Depending on his or her findings your doctor may also order on or more tests to determine if you have atrial fibrillation.
