Who We Treat
Specialized care for expectant mothers and their babies
Referral to a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist should not cause undue alarm for expectant mothers. It does not mean the pregnancy will be a difficult one. Nor does it mean the baby will have health problems. Most often, it is simply a precautionary measure designed to protect both mother and baby.
Mercy’s Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialists use technically-advanced equipment and facility to help diagnose your baby’s risks for genetic, growth and structural differences.
Mercy’s MFM’s treat mothers-to-be who are at risk for, or who have complications such as:
- Preconception Counseling
- Genetic Counseling
- Management of high-risk complications, such as:
- Medical complications in the mother, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease
- Preterm labor
- Multiple gestations (twins, triplets, etc.)
- Multiple pregnancy loss
- Blood-clotting disorders
- Advanced maternal age (at least 35 years or older)
