About Mercy

Mercy Corps

Helping community prepares for life:

AmeriCorps is the national service movement that engages Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service to address the most critical problems in our nation’s public safety, the environment and other human needs. AmeriCorps Serving Northwest Ohio (ASNO) has been in existence as a program for 16 years under the fiscal management of Mercy. The program’s longevity has secured its position as one of the oldest in both the state of Ohio and throughout the nation. AmeriCorps will now become Mercy Corps a new program designed to cover the areas of service currently provided by ASNO. In Mercy Corps inaugural year, 2011-2012, emphasis will be on Health and Wellness Education incorporating Mercy’s Core Values.

More than 500 members have served as AmeriCorps representatives in Northwest Ohio with the oversight of Mercy. They have been instrumental in helping communities and changing lives. The members served to bridge the gap in available resources, made neighborhoods more secure, improved the environment, tutored elementary students, fed the hungry, taught children to read, supported senior citizens, found or bought housing for the homeless, provided disaster relief and so much more.

Mercy Corps is proud to continue the service AmeriCorps provided within the community using Mercy’s Core Values to enhance their services(s). Mercy Corps Ambassadors will have the opportunity to develop and grow their leadership and civic skills by working with new people, working on new projects, and building ties with the community. Mercy Corps Ambassadors will learn life lessons that will serve them personally and professionally, as well as acquiring skills that will help jump start their careers. At the end of their agreement, the Mercy Corps Ambassadors will leave with a heightened sense of civic responsibility and a commitment to continue serving others for years to come. Mercy Corps Ambassadors will take with them the Core Value’s of Mercy.

Together We Commit To:
  • Compassion: Our commitment to serve with mercy and tenderness.
  • Excellence: Our commitment to be the best in the quality of our services and the stewardship of our resources.
  • Human Dignity: Our commitment to value the diversity of all persons and to be respectful and inclusive of everyone.
  • Justice: Our commitment to act with integrity, honesty and truthfulness.
  • Sacredness of Life: Our commitment to reverence all life and creation.
  • Service: Our commitment to respond to those in need.
