Sleep Apnea May Predispose to Type 2 Diabetes
New research indicates that
sleep apnea may change the way your body metabolizes insulin, which could lead
to the development of type 2 diabetes. According to the researchers, sleep apnea
triggers a “cascade” of events, including changes in endocrine function, which
is related to diabetes.
While further research
needs to be done to prove a connection between sleep apnea and diabetes, if you
suffer from sleep apnea it’s a good idea to get checked for diabetes. It’s a
simple blood test, and you’ll find out quickly what the results are.
