High Noise Levels Increase Heart Attack Risk
Everyday noise can increase your blood pressure and is bad
for your heart, according to a study published recently in the European Heart
Journal. The study looked at the amount of noise that 4,000 people were exposed
to on a daily basis. Results showed that chronic exposure increased the risk of
heart disease mildly to moderately.
For women, outdoor noise, such as loud traffic, had the
highest negative effect. For men, a loud office was most serious. Researchers
were unable to determine the reason for this.
If you’re exposed to a lot of noise on a daily basis, it’s
not a bad idea to wear earplugs, if possible. Previous research has shown that
earplugs have had a protective effect.
