Broccoli and Tomatoes·Combined·May Protect Against Prostate Cancer
A study on a group of rats who had been implanted with prostate cancer cells has shown that the rats who consumed tomato powder and broccoli powder at the same time experienced a greater reduction in prostate tumors than rats who consumed either broccoli or tomato powder, but not both.
The study researchers state that older men whose prostate cancers are growing slowly and who have chosen watchful waiting instead of chemotherapy may benefit from eating broccoli and tomatoes every day. How much? The researchers recommend 1.4 cups of raw broccoli and 2.5 cups of fresh tomato, or 1 cup of tomato sauce or 1/2 cup of tomato paste.
