Heart Disease Risk Factors may Predict Erectile

separator A new study shows that men who have some of the common risk factors for heart disease in mid-life—high cholesterol, high triglyceride levels and obesity—are more likely to have difficulty having erections many years later. This study appeared in the 21 April 2004 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology

The study tracked men who had participated in a survey of coronary heart disease risk factors in 1972 and 194. The men ranged in age from 30 to 69. In 1998, researchers sent surveys to the men who had participated in the study who were still living. Age, body mass index, cholesterol and triglycerides were the factors most associated with erectile dysfunction. Additionally, most of the men who were still living had never smoked or had quit smoking, which points out the benefits of quitting.
