Should You Play the Numbers Game?

separator When it comes to weight, there are lots of numbers you can play. Calorie counting is one of the most common. The average man needs 2,5000 to 3,000 calories per day. For women, the range is 1,800 to 2,300. If you decrease your daily calorie intake by about 500, you're likely to lose about a pound a week.

It doesn't stop there. People count grams of fat and carbohydrates. They measure their BMI. They measure their waist and hips. If they belong to Weight Watchers, they might be measuring points. If they have diabetes, they may measure their food in exchanges.

Some of these tactics work well for people. If they're working well for you then stick with them. But sometimes the numbers can be overwhelming, and before you know it, you're doing a lot of counting without really knowing why.

What's most important is your health. Genetics plays an important role in body shape. We can't all be willowy thin, but if being overweight is affecting your health, it's time to do something about it.
