Remember Cranberry Juice
Remember Cranberry Juice
If you develop frequent urinary tract infections (UTIs), which are most common in women, try drinking cranberry juice cocktail regularly. A recent research letter in the Journal of the American Medical Association suggests that cranberry juice has two substantial benefits in the fight against
UTIs:
- It keeps the bacteria that cause the infection from adhering to the lining of the urinary tract.
- It doesn’t create the possibility for resistance to its effectiveness, the way frequent use of antibiotics does.
Women in the study drank 240 mL of cranberry juice. After drinking the juice, their urine samples showed that bacteria was not adhering to the urinary tract the way it was before they drank the juice.
