Willard, OH - Joe Runkle is the recipient of the Volunteer Excellence Award for the first quarter of 2014 at Mercy Willard Hospital. Approximately 70 volunteers help fulfill Mercy’s mission of caring for the sick and injured through their generous giving of time and talent. Joe was presented with the award at the April 15 Volunteer Forum held in the Schaffer Conference Center at Mercy Willard.
The Volunteer Excellence Award is presented each quarter, and then annually, to a volunteer who is nominated by either a fellow volunteer or Mercy Willard employee. The award was created to recognize a Mercy volunteer who goes above and beyond the requirements of their volunteer assignment and reflects the Mission and Core Values of Mercy.
“Joe is always looking for ways to help our patients and visitors and was an advocate for the valet service now offered with the cub cadet,” said Laurie Kaple, Rural Division Manager of Retail Services. We were entering new territory with the service, but Joe was ready and willing to help us find a way to make it work.”
Joe was instrumental in getting the new valet program off the ground and has been the lead for this service. Joe piloted the program, provided feedback, and continues to offer suggestions on how to improve the service.
“We also recognize Joe for providing great customer service,” said Laurie. “When Joe is working, we know that patients and visitors will be greeted in a way that we would want our family to be greeted. Joe greets everyone with a great smile and a friendly demeanor, representing the Mercy Willard Volunteers in a professional and courteous manor. Joe sets a great example and truly is an ambassador for Mercy Willard.”
“We value our volunteers who provide extremely important service to all those who use our hospital services as well as our employees and physicians,” said Audrey Ginter, Manager of Development, Donor Relations and Volunteers. “Joe is a shining example of what our volunteer program is all about and we are very pleased to be able to recognize him.”
